I have an incredible sweet tooth, so I'm always looking for local dessert shops. Snow Monster landed on my bucket list in two ways. First, I saw it on Keep Austin Eatin's list of Top 20 Frozen Treats when I was researching brunch options. Not long after, a friend of mine posted a drool-worthy photo of her Snow Monster order on Facebook. That sealed the deal, and I was off to Snow Monster despite the quickly-dropping weather temperatures as we enter mid-fall.
What you need to know about Snow Monster is that their servings are truly monstrous. My mango shaved ice was served in a large dish (about 10 inches in diameter) and was stacked about 4-5 inches tall. My memory could be fooling me, but I can't remember any shaved ice I've had in the past that was this size!!
If you've had frozen ice treats before, you might be expecting a crunchy, icy texture. This shaved ice tastes smooth, almost creamy. There are generous helpings of fruit, and a light drizzle of flavored syrup over your little mountain of snow. It's truly a spoonful of happiness in your mouth! The size of the dish is perfect for sharing. The two tables next to me split their orders of shaved ice three ways. However, if you're like me and have a bottomless pit stomach for delicious desserts, you'll have no problem finishing the entire dish on your own.
