Autumn is the season of layering. It's the season when you can take unloved pieces from your wardrobe, pair them with basics on basics, and walk out of your closet looking easily put together. I bought this amazing LOFT dress off-season almost a year ago, and it hung sadly in my closet with no love. After reading some wise words in a semi-recent post from Margaret Zhang, I have taken "never resort to just the one garment" and "always layer something" to heart.
Now when I put together an outfit, I try to be more strategic and thoughtful about how to layer additional garments and or accessories. I believe that layering should be at least somewhat meaningful... not wearing something for the sake of accessorizing, but to accentuate other aspects of your outfit. This checkered LOFT dress, paired with my go-to Label + Thread sweater has become one of my new favorite outfits. Adding the loose, drapey sweater breaks up the gridded pattern and provides an opposing perspective to the structured shift beneath it. Add on some opaque tights and some classy loafers, and voila... checked out for the fall season.
