As a previously self-proclaimed non-sandwich lover, I am no more. It turns out, I love a hearty, well-made sandwich. Initially, I scouted out Sugar Addict Bakery because of their beignets. Since coming to Austin, local French cuisine has not let me down. Similarly, Sugar Addict Bakery, which is a bright orange food trailer sitting outside of Pats Games, did not fail to impress. It's currently location makes it easy for visitors to stop by for a hot snack while enjoying all Pats Games facilities and grounds.
The moment I opened my car door I could smell the scent of sweet pastries. The orange trailer hardly missable with Magic cards scattered on its humble cafe tables . I had not planned on order a large breakfast, but it was one of those times where it is a necessity to have eyes bigger than your stomach so you can try more. My order of three New Orleans beignets, a Pastrami sandwich, and a shot of espresso was more than I expected– in more ways than one. The beignets are large 3x3 inch-sized pillows that taste a little bit of heaven. Each bite was warm, sugar powdery, fluffy goodness. When they say bigger is better, I'd say it rings true for Sugar Addict's beignets, especially when they are hot and fresh.
While the beignets were amazing on mouth-watering account, the pastrami sandwich is what stole the show for me. Although the owner almost convinced me to order the chicken sandwich, I just love pastrami much more than chicken and I don't regret my choice. Pastrami, lettuces and greens, havarti cheese, and Sugar Addict Bakery's special sauce wrapped in a large beignet. The taste is absolutely savory, yet refreshing. Adding the banana pepper to the sandwich adds a light tangy kick and additional crunch. The portions are plenty as half a sandwich filled me completely.
If you haven't been to Sugar Addict Bakery yet, add this to your Austin bucket list. Whether to satisfy a sweet tooth or an empty stomach, it's perfect for enjoying beignets while sitting on the lawn of Pats Games playing a few rounds of boardgames or some Magic the Gathering.
