If blogger life is glamorous, I sure as heck haven't experienced it yet. The cynical side of me whispers that images tagged with #bloggerlife on Instagram are mildly misleading. Whether you're juggling one or three jobs, this blogger kind of life takes a lot of will, persistence, and hard work. The night before a shoot is usually spent Googling weather and locations as well as raiding my closet to piece together outfits. It can become a very flustering process when you can't find (or discover you don't own) what you have in mind. First world problems, I know.
Sundays, my preferred day of shooting, often includes waking up at the crack of dawn in hopes of finding private backdrops in which I won't be disturbed or accosted by strange men. This particular morning I was lucky because when it rains, the streets are usually fairly empty. I was able to snipe just enough shots of myself in the light rain before the torrential downpour began. By the time I was driving home, I was caught up in heavy thunderstorms. As I walked back into the house at 8am, I could hear my husband just starting to roll out of bed, as I would have before the blogging began.
For a moment this morning, I questioned my sanity. Then I remembered, as a designer in corporate America you create and produce for others. Here, I'm exercising my creative side for myself. And for now... that makes all of the early mornings and late nights worth it.
